ABOUT SUB BASE PLATYPUS

The Harbour Trust has consulted extensively with the local community to breathe new life into Sub Base Platypus, formerly the site of a torpedo factory, submarine base and gasworks. Upon the completion of an over-water walkway, BBQ area and pocket playground in May 2018, the site was opened to the public for the first time in 150 years. The Harbour Trust continues to works towards its vision of a waterfront business hub and urban parkland.

SITE HISTORY

Sub Base Platypus’ unique industrial and naval heritage is reflected in the site’s remnant workshops . This site originally hosted gasworks, then a torpedo production and maintenance facility, and the HMAS Platypus submarine base.
